IT Services
Peters Bookselling Services maintain close links to all of the major UK book distributors and Library Management System suppliers in order to ensure the smooth and efficient exchange of electronic information throughout the entire supply chain.
As a founding member of Book Industry Communication (BIC) and Booktrade Electronic Data Interchange Standards (BEDIS) we have actively participated in the instigation and introduction of standards within the library supply community and were early adopters of both the British TRADACOMS and international EdiFact message formats.
Peters Bookselling Services support the government's best value initiative delivering continuous improvement in all services and meeting or exceeding the needs and expectations of customers. One of the primary methods for achieving this objective is through the promotion of e-commerce to automate the selection and acquisition process, eliminating the need for manual rekeying wherever possible.
Peters Bookselling Services were amongst the first organizations to gain e4libraries accreditation demonstrating our commitment to the application of technology to the library sector by developing EDI links as well as a range of innovative web-based services for libraries.
We currently exchange Orders, Quotes, Confirmations, Acknowledgements, Chasers, Cataloguing Services and Invoices messages electronically. This can be done using Nielsen BookNet (one of the Transaction Management Services on the GXS Trading Grid®), direct exchange (if the customer has a suitably configured computer system), via hosted LMS systems, or via our own high security SFTP server.
We maintain a bibliographic database covering titles in stock, titles in print, forthcoming titles and out of print titles. Over 15,000 children's titles are added each year catalogued to DDC23 by our team of bibliographical librarians using publishers' advance information plus data from specialists Nielsen and BDS.
Bibliographic data can be sent as an email attachment or downloaded directly from our Petranet website in a variety of formats including ukmarc and marc21. For customers holding the requisite license we also have links to both BDS and Nielsen bibliographic services and can provide unedited data records.
We are now able to provide records containing codes for e4libraries shelving, the newly revised BIC2 subject category headings, and CBC junior categories. Further data enrichment from Renaissance Learning's widely used Accelerated Reader codes is also available to assist online customers to make informed purchasing decisions.
Recent years have seen the increasing deployment of RFID within libraries and we have systems in place allowing us to tag and activate stock for customers possessing most of the popular RFID systems including Intellident, 2CQR, 3M, DS and D-tech.
